rest
When God rested on the seventh day, it seems his intention was to enjoy all goodness of his creation. He did not pick up his to-do list and ‘get on with it’. He set aside his ‘do-it-well’ list included resting so He could enjoy the lives he created.
In reading Psalm 62, it occurred to me that the hurry and hustle can be a response to our wanting honor. We want the esteem of others around us. But verse 7 says God is my honor.

If my current need is to rest, then I just need an encounter with Him. Encounter God in ordinary, where He shows up every time.
I want to be deliberate in the choice I have, the choice of either ignoring the people and the world around us or embracing the moment, savoring it.

I guess it is a ‘stop and smell the roses’ kind of thing. Stop and pay attention to what is going on around us. Savor moments that God created, savor moments with him. Savoring, slowing down, gives us rest in Jesus Christ.
The gentle whisper of the Lord can only be heard when we have taken the time to be still and rest in His presence.

When we are empty of ourselves, then Jesus can fill us up. At the end of our rope, there we find Jesus.
That I must relinquish my hurry and choose to set aside my hurry to pick up God’s priority of doing things well.
We all know the creation story: light, sky, land with vegetation, sun and stars, sea and air animals, land animals and man, rest. God could have stopped at day 6, said it was good, and then continued on with the rest of the story. But he chose to rest. We all need rest.
He is faithful and true. His voice is a gentle whisper that I need to remind myself to listen for and be refreshed. Often. Free REST verses pdf download!
