A Prayer for Peace in the Nation

Dear Lord,

We come to you today to ask for peace, peace in our nation. This is something that seems impossible in today’s contentious environment. Brother turns against brother and sister against sister in this nation. Neighbors do not speak to one another and strangers ‘chat’ while never knowing each other.

Yet in all this confusion and contention, you are there. You sow peace. Sow it here in our nation. Sow it here in this neighborhood. Set our hearts on peace to further your kingdom. Set our hearts on understanding if not agreement. You make the impossible possible. Do so here; make peace possible, between neighbors and parties, between students and teachers, between brothers and sisters.

Show us the road that pursues peace in this nation. Show us how you would have us contribute to peace. Send your Spirit bringing peace. Bring peace to this nation. In Jesus mighty name. Amen.
